Exercise As Part of a Healthy Lifestyle – It Works!

We are big fans of exercise here at Mcycle. We are obviously partial to indoor cycling choreographed to motivational music, but almost all of our instructors enjoy other types of exercise too. We all believe in exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. Yes, exercise really works to improve a person's health.

Whether you choose spinning classes, indoor cycling at home, or another type of exercise altogether, we get the fact that it can be hard to keep yourself motivated. We know that exercise is sometimes the last thing you want to do. We also know that when regular exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle, it becomes more than just another activity on your schedule. It becomes part of who you are.

Combating Sickness and Disease

Perhaps you have heard that regular exercise can help your body combat sickness and disease. But have you heard any specifics? If not, consider this: the Mayo Clinic says that regular exercise can help prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, and other cardiovascular issues. The secret is high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

This 'good' cholesterol works to keep triglycerides in check. The end result is better cardiovascular functioning and a lower risk of things like heart disease. But that's not all. The Mayo Clinic also says that regular exercise can help prevent or better manage:

  • type II diabetes

  • anxiety and depression

  • arthritis

  • stroke

  • some forms of cancer.

Just a few spinning classes per week would really go a long way toward helping your body combat some of the most serious diseases we know of. It could lower your risk of dying from heart attack or stroke. Yet that's not even the half of it.

Healthy Eating and Weight Maintenance

We don't know why, but there seems to be some link in our brains between regular exercise and healthy eating. People who are willing to spend 30 minutes a day on indoor cycling are also more likely to be careful about what they eat. That is never a bad thing.

Regular exercise and good eating habits are, together, the absolute best way to lose weight. They are also the best way to maintain a healthy body weight long term. Doing so offers even more health benefits. For instance, lose the weight and you are a lot less likely to develop cardiovascular disease.

Regular Exercise and Sleep

Few people realize just how important sleep is to good health. Our bodies need sleep in order to repair and rejuvenate. Believe it or not, your body does an awful lot of work when you're sleeping. But if you do not sleep well, that work cannot be done. Exercise could be the answer.

Regular exercise can improve sleep by helping you fall asleep faster and spend more time in deep sleep. That is when your body can do the most repair work. So the more deep sleep you get, the better your overall health should be. If you are the kind of person who doesn't sleep well on a regular basis, how much exercise are you getting?

If you are not exercising regularly, we would love the opportunity to introduce you to indoor cycling. Whether you call it indoor cycling or spinning doesn't matter. The point is that it is a high energy, low impact form of exercise that just about anyone can do.

Exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle is a wonderful thing. As winter fades and turns into spring, why not commit to changing your life by exercising and eating right? You will not be sorry for doing so.
